Carignano del Sulcis DOC:
A Historical wine of Sardinia

Sardinia is home to some of the finest wines in Europe, and the renowned Carignano del Sulcis DOC is no exception. This exceptional wine, with its rich history and unique flavor profile, is deeply rooted in the island’s traditions and sustainable viticulture practices.

The Carignano del Sulcis DOC wine is known for its deep ruby color, full-bodied texture, and a flavor that balances rich fruitiness with a hint of spice. It is made primarily from the Carignano grape, which was likely introduced to the Sulcis region in Southern Sardinia by the Phoenicians during their ancient trade expeditions.

This grape variety, originally from Spain where it is known as “Cariñena,” has adapted exceptionally well to the sandy soils and climatic conditions of Sulcis, becoming a high-quality and distinctive wine.

The Carignano grape thrives in the Sulcis region thanks to its resistance to the salty sea winds. This resilience has allowed it to be cultivated mainly on the sandy, warm, and sunny soils of Sulcis. Combined with low yields per vine, these conditions give the wine its strength and richness in extract and aromas.

Sustainability is at the heart of viticulture in Sardinia. These methods not only ensure a healthier product but also contribute to the sustainability of the local environment.
