The Balearic Islands are located in the east of the Iberian Peninsula (Spain) and are made up of the following islands: Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera. Nearly 1.2 million people live on Balearic Islands. During summer the human pressure indicator puts the islands at 1.5 million people.

Mallorca is actively working to reduce its environmental footprint through widespread adoption of organic and ecological agriculture. Climate change mitigation here focuses on reducing emissions from traditional farming, especially in sectors like olive oil and wine production, and increasing carbon capture by expanding organic farmland. Additionally, local initiatives in the tourism sector, such as composting hotel waste to create agricultural fertilizer, strengthen circular economy practices that support climate goals.
