Orange Trees of Mallorca

The Mallorcan oranges, introduced by the Arabs, are the base of the local gastronomy, finding an ideal ecosystem in the north of the island.

The local and seasonal product is the fundamental base of the Balearic Islands’ gastronomy. Orange trees are a representative element of the northern region of Mallorca.

They were introduced by the Arabs, and here they found an ideal ecosystem thanks to the appropriate humidity, abundant water, plenty of sunlight hours, and soil of excellent fertility.

Since 2007, between late March and early April, the towns of Sóller, Port de Sóller, and Fornalutx have been celebrating “La Fira de la Taronja” (The Orange Fair), a tribute to this fruit, which is present in much of the gastronomy of this privileged area.

It can be enjoyed in a thousand different ways, with one of the main ones being “Suc de Taronja,” freshly squeezed orange juice. A taste you will never forget.
