Organic wines of Sardinia
The production of organic wines in Sardinia is continuously expanding, as more wineries adopt sustainable cultivation methods. This growth reflects a strong commitment to an environmentally respectful future, while preserving the authenticity and genetic heritage of Sardinian viticulture. Native grape varieties are at the heart of this identity: crisp whites like Vermentino, and robust reds such as Cannonau and Carignano.
Respect for Biodiversity
European regulations forbid the use of pesticides, herbicides, and GMOs. Instead, organic fertilizers and green manure enrich the soil, improving both fertility and structure. This approach safeguards biodiversity while promoting agriculture in harmony with nature.
Soil Protection
To shield vines from pests and fungal diseases, natural substances like copper and sulphur are applied within regulated limits. Mechanical weeding and natural grass cover protect the soil, preserve biodiversity, and prevent erosion — ensuring healthier vines and long-term sustainability.
Organic Wine Certifications
Organic wines proudly carry the Euro-Leaf logo, guaranteeing compliance with EU standards. Sardinia also boasts 15 IGT wines, 17 DOC wines, and 1 DOCG wine — Vermentino di Gallura. Altogether, 33 certified denomination wines highlight the island’s dedication to quality and authenticity.
