Sardinia: Sustainable Craft Beer Production
Sardinia is leading the way in the craft beer industry with the first supply chain contract for craft beer signed on the island. This initiative involves around twenty Sardinian breweries and the cooperative ‘Isola Sarda’, aiming for a fully local production process, from field to glass.
The project includes barley producers, malt houses, craft breweries, and hop growers. Currently, 70 hectares have been cultivated for barley production for #beer. This path represents a concrete opportunity for the entire sector, with Sardinia at the forefront of a new production model that ties craft beer closely to the territory and its agricultural supply chain.
Sustainability in Craft Beer Production
The production of craft beer in Sardinia is not only about creating a delightful beverage but also about preserving local biodiversity and promoting sustainable practices.
Farmers and brewers use environmentally friendly techniques, such as minimal pesticide use and crop rotation, to maintain soil fertility and ecological balance.
Drip irrigation is employed to reduce water consumption, which is crucial in a region like Sardinia.
Safeguarding the Sardinian Landscape
The unique Sardinian landscape is integral to the identity of its craft beer.
Protecting areas where these crops grow is essential to prevent deforestation and excessive urbanization.
Local communities are involved in education and awareness programs to protect these valuable resources.
Through these practices, not only is craft beer production preserved, but the natural beauty of Sardinia is also maintained, ensuring that travelers can enjoy this wonderful island for years to come.
